Dr. Dan Holtzclaw will publish a textbook on pterygoid implants later this summer. According to Holtzclaw, who is a board-certified specialist in dental implants, it is the first of its kind. It will feature more than 200 full-color pages devoted to pterygoid dental implants used in full-arch, immediate-load protocols designed for patients with severe bone loss.

Also, Everything You Need to Know About Pterygoid Implants will detail the history of pterygoid implants, anatomy pertinent to the placement of pterygoid implants, indications and contraindications for pterygoid implants, surgical technique, how to deal with complications, prosthetic considerations for pterygoid implants, and sample cases.

Pterygoid implants are placed in the upper jaw of patients who have lost a significant amount of jawbone and cannot support dental implants. They are much longer than standard implants, extending from the tooth root area to the pterygoid processes of the sphenoid bone.

Holtzclaw is a Diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and the American Board of Periodontology. He is one of a limited number of implant surgeons who perform pterygoid implant procedures, allowing him to help many patients who are turned down for implants at other practices, he said.

According to Holtzclaw, he has placed more than 25,000 implants, published more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed dental journals , and lectured on same-day, zygomatic, and pterygoid implants at conferences worldwide. He has been named among the World’s Top 100 Doctors by Global Summits Institute as well.

Holtzclaw’s practice, Austin Dental Implant Center in Austin, Texas, takes a comprehensive and collaborative approach to dental implant treatment, he said Periodontists, oral surgeons, and lab technicians all work at the facility to offer patients everything they need, he said.

Advance orders of the textbook will receive a 25% discount on the standard price.
