Formlabs has announced the launch of its Formlabs Dental business unit, as well as its Form 3B printer, Dental Service Plan, and Formlabs Materials Partner Platform. The unit comprises more than 50 materials scientists and print process engineers.

“Since launching the Form 2, 3-D printing adoption within the dental industry has increased significantly,” said Jay Burton, DMD, MBA, of SmileMaker Orthodontics. “The incredibly accurate Form 3B produces crisp and consistent dental parts, and the Dental Service Plan provides the confidence to go digital.”

Formlabs offers more than 10 dental materials that can be used on the Form 3B, including the biocompatible Surgical Guide Resin. The company also offers four new shades in its Dentures material library and says it is improving and launching new print settings for its legacy Dental SG and Dental LT materials.

The Form 3B can be used for more than 10 dental applications. It’s designed to allow users to switch seamlessly in a library of resins with a no-hassle cartridge system. Also, each application is validated and testing by a team of dental experts to ensure quality and accuracy, Formlabs says, including:

  • Crown and bridge models
  • Clear aligner and retainer models
  • Diagnostic models
  • Surgical guides
  • Occlusal splints
  • Patterns for casting and pressing
  • Dentures with four base and six tooth shades

The Dental Service Plan, meanwhile, is backed by a dedicated team of certified dental specialists providing self-serve learning pathways and specialized training. It includes:

  • Personalized in-person or video training
  • Priority email and phone support with dental specialists
  • How-swapping printers for nonstop production

“When patients visit the dentist, they want a fast, customized solution for their teeth,” said Max Lobovsky, CEO and cofounder of Formlabs.

“Our new Form 3B printer is uniquely tailored to seamlessly digitize, streamline, and expedite workflow so dentists and technicians can focus on providing patients with the outcomes they expect and deserve,” said Lobovsky.

Furthermore, the Formlabs Materials Partner Platform allows third party manufacturers to work with the company to bring new materials to the market on the Formlabs system. Interested manufacturers that would like to make their materials available on the Form 3B should contact Formlabs.
