Dentsply Sirona is inviting female dentists and dental technicians to apply for its Smart Integration Award, which recognizes visionary treatment concepts and outstanding achievements by women in dentistry and creates a platform for an international network of talented female dental experts, the company said.

Applicants will submit their ideas for collaboration between the dental practice and the dental lab, according to the company. Dentsply Sirona executives and renowned external experts will evaluate the entries, the company said. Applications are due by June 28, 2021, and the award ceremony will be held at the end of the year.

“We want to support women in all areas of dentistry by ensuring we understand their needs and support the development of their skills. The visionary thinking of talented female dental professionals drives innovation in dentistry and helps deliver the best patient experience,” said Lisa Yankie, senior vice president, chief human resources officer and communications.

The award honors creative ideas and successful treatment concepts from female dental experts, Dentsply Sirona said, such as ideas about how to improve the treatment experience for patients during diagnosis and therapy or about how optimally networked and efficient workflows could look in the practices and dental labs of tomorrow.

“With the Smart Integration Award, we want to integrate the expertise and visions of female dental experts even more strongly into product development,” said Susanne Schmidinger, director of global brand marketing enabling devices.

“In many countries, today, over 50% of students at dental faculties are women, with a rising tendency. It is important to enter into dialogue with female dentists and especially with young dental professionals,” Schmidinger said.

“Their creative potential will significantly influence the future of dentistry. Dental experts who embrace change and progress are invaluable partners in helping us to develop future innovations that serve the needs or practitioners in every detail,” Schmidinger said.

Dentsply Sirona first introduced the award in November 2019 and has recognized 24 professionals for their unique success stories and contribution to more efficient and practical workflows at treatment centers, the company said.

“The concept of the award intrigued me. It was about efficient, intelligent, and integrated workflows using smart networked processes, something I was interested in,” said Dr. Ginal Bilimoria, a 2019 award winner from Auckland, New Zealand.

“And I love the idea of the award being open to women from all over the world. When a group of women get together to discuss dentistry, the dynamic is often quite different as we open up and share more easily about our struggles and successes,” Bilimoria said.

Entries for the award can be submitted as photos, video, text, or sketches. The competition covers the following categories: Treatment Centers, Digital, Orthodontics, Endodontics, Dental Conservation, Dental Technology, Hygiene, Implantology, Equipment Management, Design, and UX.

The award honors examples of seamlessly connected procedures and workflows, Dentsply Sirona said, as well as innovative solutions that improve both the user experience of the practice team and the patient experience.
