ORLANDO, Fla., March 21, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Gerald N. Glickman, D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., J.D., was installed as the new President of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) at the 2012 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition.

"Dr. Glickman’s commitment to and advocacy of lifelong learning is genuine," says ADEA Immediate Past President, Leo E. Rouse, D.D.S. "He has led by example throughout his career in dental education, and I anticipate that the unique perspective he brings to the ADEA presidency will ensure that both the Association and the academic dentistry community will continue to flourish under his leadership."

Dr. Glickman will focus his term as ADEA President on fostering lifelong learning. "Over the years, I have come to realize that education is far from finite — it simply does not end after one course of study or after completing dental school," says Dr. Glickman. "The knowledge explosion in dentistry is growing exponentially, thus making life-long learning essential. We as an Association must have our fingers on the pulse of all aspects of dental education, the latest research and best evidence, and the political climate of health care in order for us to grapple effectively with the issues we will be facing."

An educator committed to bettering the future of academic dentistry, Dr. Glickman is a founding member of the ADEA Commission on Change and Innovation in Dental Education (ADEA CCI), which builds consensus among all stakeholders in dental education, research, and practice by providing leadership to a systemic, collaborative, and continuous process of innovative change in the education of general dentists. He has chaired and served as Councilor for the ADEA Section on Endodontics and the ADEA Section on Graduate and Postgraduate Education. He was the ADEA Vice President for Sections, a position he held from 2002 to 2005.

Dr. Glickman is currently Professor and Chair of the Department of Endodontics and Director of Graduate Endodontics at Baylor College of Dentistry. He holds a M.S. in microbiology from the University of Kentucky and earned his D.D.S. from The Ohio State University. He was awarded a GPR certificate from the University of Florida and a certificate and M.S. in Endodontics from Northwestern University. Dr. Glickman also holds a M.B.A. from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from Texas Wesleyan University.
