Ivoclar Vivadent hosts high-caliber professional education events

On October 5, 2012, Ivoclar Vivadent held the “All-Ceramic Leadership Summit: IPS e.max and Beyond” at the ADA Headquarters in Chicago.  More than 50 leaders in dentistry participated in the event.

IPS e.max and Implant Prosthodontics take center stage
During the All-Ceramic Leadership Summit, several presenters discussed a variety of topics relating to implants.  From integration to esthetics to abutments to success rates, the implant topic and conversations were very impactful.

Participants engaged on a number of topics relating to IPS e.max and esthetic dentistry.  Robert Ganley began the day with a state of the industry and e.max update, and the day continued with sessions led by dental experts on the clinical reliability of e.max, maximizing esthetics, the science of impant abutments, successes of all-ceramic implant supported restorations, and discussions about e.max with implant prosthodontics.  Presenters at this leadership summit included:
Mr. Robert Ganley – As the CEO of Ivoclar Vivadent, AG, Ganley is responsible for
the worldwide business of Ivoclar Vivadent.  Under his direction, the organization
has become the worldwide leader in innovative materials and processes for quality,
esthetic dentistry.
Dr. George Tysowsky – Dr. Tysowsky serves as Vice President of Technology for Ivoclar Vivadent, Inc. and in this capacity is responsible for Research and Development
activities for all North American operations. He is also an active member of several
boards throughout organized dentistry.
Dr. Arnd Peschke – Dr. Peschke joined Ivoclar Vivadent in 2001 and now serves as the Director of R&D Clinical. His work focuses on clinical and in vitro investigations in the field
of adhesive dentistry, direct composites, all-ceramics and chairside CAD/CAM
applications in particular.
Marcel Schweiger, MSc – Schweiger received his engineering degree (MSc) in Materials Science in 1991 and joined Ivoclar Vivadent in 1993. Since 2011, he has served as Director of Inorganic Chemistry, where he is responsible for the material
development of new metal ceramic and all-ceramic products.
Michele Temperani, MDT – Temperani is the co-owner of a full-service dental laboratory in Florence, Italy where he exclusively manages the ceramic department. He is also very active in research and didactic activities for the development of high-strength ceramic materials.
August Bruguera, MDT – As a world-renowned lecturer and author on IPS e.max
all-ceramic restorations, Bruguera is the owner and operator of the dental laboratory and
training center “Laboratorio August Bruguera” based in Barcelona, Spain.
Dr. Ken Malament – Currently maintaining a full-time private practice limited to prosthodontics in Boston, Dr. Malament is a Past President of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Clinical Professor and Course Director at Tufts University in postgraduate prosthodontics.
Dr. Tom Taylor – Dr. Taylor is a Professor and the Head of the Department of Reconstructive Sciences at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine.  
He is also an active member of the American College of Prosthodontics.
Dr. Eric Van Dooren – Dr. Van Dooren is a Visiting Professor at both the University of Liege (Belgium) and University Marseille (France).  An active member of the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, he also has a private practice in Antwerpen, Belgium.

Laboratory Town Hall Meeting
On Thursday afternoon, preceding the Leadership Summit, Ivoclar Vivadent executives sat down with Laboratory participants in a roundtable format to discuss the all-ceramics industry. This session provided valuable insights into the marketplace for all in attendance, and provided an opportunity for constituents from the Laboratory business to provide feedback to Ivoclar Vivadent.

iLuminating Experience
As part of the festivities, the iLuminate Dancers, an “America’s Got Talent” finalist, performed an innovative and electrifying dance act at a special dinner Thursday evening at the Trump International Hotel and Towers.  Summit participants were “enlightened” by both the latest information on Ivoclar Vivadent’s all-ceramic products and by this international performing sensation.

BERLIN
Ivoclar Vivadent hosted a prestigious professional education event in Berlin on September 15, 2012.  At the “All-Ceramics Meets Implant Esthetics” symposium, approximately 750 participants from 37 countries were learning from leading dental professionals about the latest all-ceramic materials and their clinical applications.

Esthetics around the globe
A number of leading dental professionals presented treatment protocols for highly esthetic restorations, resulting in useful information dentists could use back at their practices. These specialists included:
Dr. Nitzan Bichacho, Professor from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel
Dr. Arndt Happe from Münster, Germany
Mr. Andreas Kunz, acclaimed Master Dental Technician from Berlin, Germany
Dr. Andreas Kurbad from Viersen, Germany

Mr. August Bruguera, recognized Dental Technician from Barcelona, Spain
Dr. Kenneth A. Malament from Tufts University in Boston, USA

Longer-term statistics on all-ceramics
Almost all of the experts at the symposium commented on the excellent clinical performance of all-ceramics.  Photos offered visual testimony to the long-term success of dental ceramics: lasting esthetics and high marginal integrity over time with the very rare incident of discoloration or chipping.  Clinical studies demonstrated, among other positive findings, the reliability of Lithium Disilicate bridges with survival rates of 89 percent after 10 years.  Experts discussing these findings included:

Other topics of discussion included Dr. Coachman’s The Digital Smile Design concept (which has gained worldwide recognition), and the incorporation of modern means of communication to treat patients, including online meetings, video conferencing and desktop sharing. Experts in these discussions included:

Dr. Galip Gürel from Istanbul, Turkey

Roundtable discussion with experts
Just preceding the symposium, six specialists discussed their work and provided insightful perspectives at a round-table discussion.  Together with Armin Ospelt, Head of Global Marketing at Ivoclar Vivadent, they answered audience questions during animated panel discussions.  Josef Richter, Chief Sales Officer and member of Ivoclar Vivadent’s Corporate Management Team, promised dialogue with leading international experts would continue and an international symposium will continue to be held every two years in a different European venue each time.
