Twenty volunteers from Dentsply Sirona Charlotte teamed up with Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a family in need on September 20, 2019, in Matthews, North Carolina. In two shifts, the volunteers erected the scaffolding, prepared the cabinet blocking for the walls, and prepared trusses for the roof.

“Here at Dentsply Sirona, we take our social responsibility to heart. Supporting amazing humanitarian causes such as Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to build affordable housing is our way of giving back to the community we live in,” said Keith Clements, vice president of US distribution and customer support, who led the Dentsply Sirona volunteers.

“We are very proud of the hands-on attitude and the obvious joy shown by our associates here in Charlotte who volunteered for this cause, and we are looking forward to doing more projects in the Charlotte area with Habitat for Humanity in the years ahead,” said Clements.

In addition to time and manpower, Dentsply Sirona also contributed financially to the build. According to the company, more than a third of the families in Matthews are considered poor, near poverty, or house poor, which means that they spend more than 30% of their income on a place to live.

The house that the volunteers helped build will go to Moulay, his wife Samia, and their children Rana, Zakaria, and Tasneem, who are currently living in a small second floor apartment with little room for the children to play. Renting the confined space costs them an entire monthly paycheck.

The new house will be a three-bedroom home with a yard where the children can play safely. Its affordable mortgage also means that Moulay can invest a bigger part of his income on other essential things, such as his children’s education or savings.

Greater Matthews Habitat for Humanity started the build in July this year in partnership with local churches and congregations. With the support of more than 170 volunteers including the Dentsply Sirona team, the family will be able to spend the upcoming holidays already in their own home.
