The American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) has honored Steven W. Kess, vice president of global professional relations at Henry Schein, with its Public Service Award for 2017. The AAPHD presents the award each year to an individual for substantial contributions through action related to public health dentistry issues. Kess was saluted for representing the culture of Henry Schein and the company’s commitment to global corporate social responsibility as demonstrated through the Henry Schein Cares program.

“We at the AAPHD greatly appreciate the actions Mr. Kess has taken toward improving public health on behalf of some of our nation’s most vulnerable and underserved people,” said AAPHD immediate past president Frances Kim, DDS, MPH, DrPH. “His commitment to serving the public good should serve as an example to all those who are interested in making a positive impact on our shared community, and we congratulate him on his award.”

Kess, who also serves as president of the nonprofit Henry Schein Cares Foundation, serves on the boards of the American Medical Association Foundation, the Alliance for Oral Health Across Borders, and the Sante Fe Group. He previously served on the boards of the ADA Foundation, Oral Health America, the US National Oral Health Alliance, and the Friends of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.

“I have been fortunate to play a part in a number of programs and initiatives that have expanded access to oral healthcare for people in need and advanced the understanding that oral health and overall health are inextricably linked,” said Kess. “Thank you to the AAPHD for this honor, which I share with my colleagues at Henry Schein and the countless oral health professionals, industry partners, and nongovernmental organizations who share our commitment to helping health happen.”
