The Dawson Academy has scheduled sessions of Functional Occlusion: From TMJ to Smile Design nationwide for 2020. The course is designed to offer a scientifically based, practical approach to occlusal management in everyday practice. It will detail the 10 factors critical to stable occlusion and how applying them results in long-term success, Dawson says. It also will teach clinicians how to identify, prior to treatment, which patients pose a risk of future instability, Dawson adds. Further, Dawson says, the course will present:

  • An examination process that gets the aesthetically driven patient to care about the functional implications critical to long-term success
  • How to know precisely where teeth need to go for veneers, crowns, and implant-supported restorations
  • When it is safe to open vertical and when not to do so
  • Why porcelain chips and breaks and how to eliminate breakage from your practice
  • Step by step processes utilizing checklists for functional-aesthetic analysis and treatment planning
  • How to efficiently take the necessary diagnostic records for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment planning
  • A thorough examination process and how to implement it in your practice
  • How understanding occlusion saves you time, increases profitability, and reduces stress

Speakers will include John Cranham, DDS; Andrew Cobb, DDS; and Leonard Hess, DDS. The course will be worth 16 continuing education credits. Sessions are scheduled for February 7 and 8 in Clearwater Beach, Florida; April 30 to May 1 in New York City; June 11 and 12 in San Francisco; September 17 and 18 in Plano, Texas; and October 8 and 9 in Clearwater Beach. Tuition is $1,695 per doctor or technician. For more information, visit thedawsonacademy.com/live-course/functional-occlusion/.
