As dental practices reopen, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) has released a new checklist to help people prepare for their next dental appointment. What to Expect: Going to the Dentist After Stay-at-Home Order Is Lifted illustrates what safety measures patients can expect as they return to dental offices for treatment.

The resource is a collaboration with AAID dentists who own practices across the nation and who have followed infection control procedures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for years. These practices now are implementing extra steps to protect patients and employees.

“As my practice begins to reopen for routine checkups, the health and safety of patients and staff is of highest priority,” said Grace Chung, DDS. “It’s important that we let patients know ahead of their appointment what precautions will be in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19 so they can rest assured we’re doing everything possible to keep them safe.”

The downloadable resource covers what to expect before, during, and after an appointment. It reminds patients what to bring and not to bring to their appointment and includes space for them to write down questions that they may want to ask their dentist.

The guide covers general new measures, so the AAID also advises patients to contact their own dentists to find out about their reopening plans. Further, the AAID is providing patients with The Ultimate Guide to Dental Health During COVID-19, advising them about how to best maintain their oral health at home.
