The 3M Oral Care Mobile True Definition Scanner took the bronze in the diagnostic tools category at the Edison Awards. Finalists for these honors, presented by nonprofit Edison Universe, were judged by a panel of more than 3,000 senior business executives and academics in product development, design, engineering, science, and medicine. Winners were chosen for their excellence in concept, value, delivery, and impact.

According to 3M, the Mobile True Definition Scanner is a one-of-a-kind tablet-based intraoral scanner. Designed for ergonomics and portability, it gives clinicians the freedom to move about their facilities while carrying the scanner with them, 3M says. It also saves space and improves maneuverability, the company reports. Plus, patients can hold and view it themselves while clinicians discuss treatment, improving communication and understanding, 3M says.

“It is an honor to receive an Edison Award for our innovative approach to oral care and commitment to bringing digital advancement to the industry,” said James Ingebrand, president and general manager for 3M Oral Care. “Positively impacting both the ability of clinicians to provide quality treatment and the oral health of patients is what is most important to the work we are doing at 3M, and we appreciate being recognized for that commitment to the oral care industry.”
