The Lucy Hobbs Project invites members of the dental community to three free events this February designed to help attendees make a difference in their careers, in their communities, and in the lives of their patients.

“Whether it be on campus to connect with students, in collaboration with dentists to discuss relevant issues, or within networking opportunities to bring colleagues together, our mission is to keep the conversation going and drive dentistry forward,” said Rachel Pugh, branding and communications manager for Benco Dental, which is sponsoring the events.

The first event will be an evening of educational discussion focusing on “The Opioid Crisis: What We Don’t Fix Cannot Heal” and on addiction prevention efforts on February 7 at 6 pm at Brick House Blue in Dublin, Ohio. Phing Saurer, DDS, PhD, will host the event, which also will feature Lucy Hobbs Humanitarian Award recipient Sharon Parsons, DDS.

Parsons founded “A Voice for Sean,” a nonprofit dedicated to opioid addiction education and advocacy, after the loss of her son Sean to an overdose. The event will include a raffle to benefit the organization. Dinner and refreshments will be provided, and the top 15 nominees will receive dental support awards. Attendees also will earn 1.5 continuing education credits.

Also on February 7, Pamela Zarkowski, JD, MPH, BSDH, will present “Giving It Your Heart” to inspire dental and hygiene students and dental alumnae of the University of Detroit Mercy Dental School from 5:45 to 7:45 pm at the Detroit Mercy Dental Corktown Campus Special Functions Room in Detroit. Zakorski is provost and vice president of academic affairs at the school. Dinner, desserts, and networking also will be available to attendees.

And on February 21, an evening of cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and networking will celebrate the formal announcement of the 2019 Lucy Hobbs Project Annual Celebration at the Riff Music Lounge in Chicago from 5 to 8 pm. Attendees can expect free transportation from the Chicago Midwinter Meeting to the venue.
