The Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting has named Robert O’Donnell, DDS, the general chair of Hinman 2020, scheduled for March 19 to March 21, 2020, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. O’Donnell is a dentist with a practice in Alpharetta, Georgia.

O’Donnell envisions Hinman 2020 as one large homecoming event dedicated to improving skills, expanding capabilities, and collaborating with colleagues to achieve success, according to the show’s organizers.

Working with program chairs Jane Puskas, DMD, and William Rousseau, DDS, O’Donnell has been planning Hinman for the past three years. It will feature favorite as well as new speakers discussing best practices, new technology, and new business strategies, organizers report.

O’Donnell has been practicing dentistry in Atlanta for nearly 30 years. His Alpharetta practice, based in a 70-year-old residence, combines a historic atmosphere and furnishings with the latest in dental technology, including CEREC, the show’s organizers say.

“What I like most about being a dentist is the relationship that I have with my patients. I’ve had patients who’ve brought their children, and now their children are grown and married and bringing their children to see me,” said O’Donnell.

“The relationships we build with those families and playing a role in life-changing oral health improvements are what’s most important to me,” said O’Donnell.

O’Donnell has been a member of the Hinman Dental Society for 30 years and has served in nearly every leadership and volunteer role available. In his first 10 years with Hinman, he served on both the information and clinic captain committees.

Also, O’Donnell has chaired the information, clinic captain, participation, and concurrent meeting committees. He has served as president of the society and in other leadership roles. And, he was the program co-chair of Hinman 2011 and Hinman 2017.

An active member of the ADA, Georgia Dental Association, AGD, and Georgia Academy of Dental Practice, O’Donnell also was the founding president of the Greater Atlanta Dental Foundation and has volunteered with Georgia Mission of Mercy and other charitable clinics.

O’Donnell is a graduate of the Emory Dental School, where he completed his general practice residency. He also earned his bachelor’s degree in microbiology at the University of Georgia. He now lives in Milton, Georgia.

Registration for Hinman 2020 will open on December 10, 2019.
