The New York University College of Dentistry chapter of the Hispanic Student Dental Association (HSDA) took first place in the 2020 Nuestros Niños (Our Children) Competition, a national contest among all dental schools in the United States supported by Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals and the Hispanic Dental Association.

The competition calls for HSDA student chapters to present a comprehensive pediatric dental case addressing healthcare issues, prevention, and oral care strategies for Hispanic children. The NYU chapter’s presentation was titled “Ectopic Eruption of a First Permanent Molar: A Clinical Evaluation of Pediatric Patients in a School-based Dental Program.”

Students Claudia Razztto and Giannina Conde of the class of 2021 shared the $5,000 first-place award, and NYU’s HSDA chapter received $500. Pediatric faculty advisor Dr. Rose Amable, clinical assistant professor of pediatric dentistry, will publish the case on the Colgate Oral Health Care Network.

This is the second consecutive year that NYU’s HSDA chapter has won first place in the competition.
