Conor McNulty, CAE, has been appointed executive director of the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS), which represents more than 5,000 member dentists and is a statewide constituent of the ADA.

McNulty has served as executive director of the Oregon Dental Association since 2014. Prior to that, he served in various management roles with the California Dental Association, one of the largest and most innovative healthcare organizations in the country, the MDS said.

“I am very excited to welcome Conor to the MDS. He is a dynamic, energizing person who comes highly recommended as being an insightful leader and team player,” said Dr. Janis Moriarty, president of the MDS.

“His experience in change management and governance reform will help him guide the MDS through the first years of our new governance structure. He is data driven and focused on successful outcomes, and I am very much looking forward to working with him,” said Moriarty.

“After an extensive search, it became clear that several candidates stood out. But here was an energy and excitement about Conor that made him our obvious and unanimous choice,” said Dr. David Lustbader, MDS past president and chair of the executive director search committee.

“I have participated in and chaired many national searches, and I can honestly say we have the great fortune of finding a truly remarkable fit for the next executive director of the Massachusetts Dental Society. This was an easy decision for us, and I believe this will be the foundation for taking the MDS to even greater heights,” said Lustbader.

McNulty holds a Certified Association Executive designation from the American Society of Association Executives. He also was honored as a Forty Under 40 Association Leader by the Association Forum of Chicagoland and USAE Newsin 2017.

“I am honored and thrilled to join such a dynamic and respected organization as the Massachusetts Dental Society,” said McNulty. “I look forward to supporting MDS members and am excited to work closely with the leadership and talented staff to continue advancing the strategic vision of the organization each day.”

Prior to association work, McNulty also served in roles in corporate marketing, publishing, and business development. He earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of San Francisco.

McNulty will assume his responsibilities as executive director of MDS on March 9. He succeeds Dr. Robert Boose, CAE, who is retiring as the MDS’s executive director after 18 years of service.
