Professor Ihsane Ben Yahya of Morocco was named the FDI World Dental Federation’s president-elect during FDI General Assembly B at the ADA FDI World Dental Congress in San Francisco on September 8. An FDI Council member since 2013, Ben Yahya will serve a two-year term before assuming the FDI presidency in 2021.

“I will spare no effort to ensure that the FDI keeps its visibility and voice and be inclusive,” said Ben Yahya, “in order to reduce inequalities in oral health so that the most marginalized populations will not be left behind.”

Ben Yahya also is the president and a founding member of the Moroccan Dental Association. Under her leadership, the organization has become a leader in promoting preventive strategies and offering continuing education opportunities to ensure better oral health outcomes in the country, FDI says.

As a professor at the dental university in Casablanca, Morocco, Ben Yahya has trained generations of dentists. She also is the chief physician at the Center for Dental Consultations and Treatments at the CHU Ibn Rochd Hospital in Casablanca. She has served on numerous committees, commissions, juries, and boards as well.
