AADR Announces Inaugural MIND the Future Program Mentees

The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) has announced the 10 participants and mentees in the inaugural class of its Mentoring an Inclusive Network for a Diverse Workforce of the Future (AADR MIND the Future) program.

AADR MIND the Future is part of a five-year, $1.3 million grant funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) designed to build a vibrant and inclusive community of investigators whose participation is vital to advancing dental, oral, and craniofacial research and improving the oral health of the nation, the AADR said.

The program will offer one year of educational activities and interactive opportunities between mentors and mentees to support the development of a diverse oral and craniofacial biomedical research workforce. The selected mentees are:

  • Susana Calderon, University of Iowa, Iowa City
  • Modupe Coker, Rutgers University, Newark, New Jersey
  • Dina Garcia, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond
  • Cherice Hughes-Oliver, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston
  • Bruno Lima, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis
  • Stephanie Momeni, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland
  • Indra Mustapha, Howard University, Washington, DC
  • Susana Maria Salazar Marocho, University of Mississippi, Jackson
  • Tamanna Tiwari, University of Colorado, Denver
  • Cristina Vidal, University of Iowa, Iowa City

“AADR is pleased to be partnering with NIDCR on this mentoring network program along with co-principal investigators Effie Ioannidou, University of Connecticut, Farmington, and David Drake, University of Iowa College of Dentistry, Iowa City, 11 institutions, and a nationwide management and advisory committee to develop a diverse dental, oral, and craniofacial research workforce for the future,” said Christopher H. Fox, AADR chief executive officer and principal investigator of the NIDCR grant.
