WASHINGTON, Dec. 3, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Registration is now open for the 2013 American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session & Exhibition–the premier event in dental education—taking place March 16-19, 2013 in Seattle, Washington. Programming central to the theme Landscape of Learning encompasses key issues and future-oriented concepts in dental education and oral health, while underscoring academic dentistry’s commitment to lifelong learning.

“The theme Landscape of Learning is really about navigating the ever-changing landscape of dentistry through life-long learning, specifically related to reflection, interprofessional development, assessment, and innovation,” says ADEA President Gerald N. Glickman, D.D.S., M.S., M.B.A., J.D. “As educators, it is at our core to embrace reflective learning throughout our careers, and encourage our students to do the same.”

The 2013 ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition will feature faculty development workshops, a Presidential Symposium, and plenary sessions with world renowned presenters. ADEA’s Opening Plenary session will feature John Medina, Ph.D., author of Brain Rules, an affiliate Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Director of the Brain Center for Applied Learning Research at Seattle Pacific University. Dr. Medina, a developmental molecular biologist with a lifelong fascination with how the mind reacts to and organizes information, will focus his presentation on how students really learn and how best to engage them throughout the learning process.

Programming at the meeting is divided into six learning foci that offer dental educators and administrators, as well as students, residents, and fellows, a variety of relevant sessions to attend, and an
opportunity to assess and reflect on their own needs as life-long learners. Educational sessions will focus on curricular change with a focus on interprofessional education, various pedagogical approaches especially related to learning how to teach to inspire and motivate students as learners and future professionals, and methods of effective reflection and positive self-assessment.

The ADEA Annual Session & Exhibition is the most anticipated and highly attended professional education event presented by ADEA. More than 2,000 dental education community members including deans, allied and advanced program directors, faculty, students, and residents, come together each year for networking and professional development opportunities, and to explore the more than 90 dental community partners and solution providers on display in the exhibit hall.
