Electric toothbrush manufacturer quip has acquired dental care membership plan company Afora as the first company to join its newly formed venture studio, quip Labs. As part of this acquisition, Afora will accelerate quip’s mission to offer a simpler and more affordable alternative to dental insurance, the companies report.

Afora’s plans start at $25 per month and include fully covered preventive services such as cleanings, exams, and x-rays. The company also now will have access to quip’s resources and expertise in marketing, technology development, and creative services, it says, as well as the opportunity to merge with quip’s existing service and network of members and professionals.

Quip further says that bringing Afora into quip Labs lets it accelerate its mission of supporting members through all their oral care, from the products they use every day to the professionals they visit every six months. Projects will include accelerating early stage companies, consulting with pre-launch companies, and incubating internal and external projects.
