If you didn’t think oral cancer was serious, then all you to have to do is take notice of Mouth Cancer Action Month. The campaign, which takes place in November, was officially launched this week.

The campaign is supported by the British Dental Health Foundation. Representatives from various organizations are urging dental professionals and people from other medical industries to raise the awareness of mouth cancer.

According to some statistics, one person dies from oral cancer every five hours in the United Kingdom. Still, many people have little knowledge of the signs and symptoms of the disease. That’s why there are plenty of cases that go undiagnosed.

In addition to raising awareness about any type of oral cancer, the goal of this campaign is also to stress the importance of visiting the dentist on a regular basis.

Experts involved with the campaign want people to take any possible symptoms seriously and visit a dentist as soon as possible. The symptoms to look out for are sores that take a long time to heal, any red or white spots in your mouth, and a lump or swelling in the vicinity of the throat or mouth.
