Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Brown’s Dental Surgery in Washington, Sunderland.

Brown’s Dental Surgery is a mixed income practice with three fully fitted surgeries and circa 15,000 registered patients. The business is located within the Galleries Health Centre in Washington town centre, less than 10 miles from the cities of Sunderland and Newcastle upon Tyne.

The practice has been sat in its current location since 1980. The exiting Principal, Dr Trevor Brown and his wife, Dr Morag Brown, started working there in 1983 and 1982 respectively and, in 1985, took over the business and have continued to improve on the practice’s enviable reputation by delivering high-quality, family dentistry to the local community.

The pair brought the practice to market to enable them to pursue retirement, and it has been purchased by Mrs Anitha Bangaru. Anitha has owned a practice in Darlington since 2013 and acquired her second practice in Durham in 2018. Brown’s Dental Practice is her third acquisition. She plans to increase the private potential at the practice.

Dr Trevor Brown comments, “Morag had worked at the practice as an Associate since 1982 and I joined in 1983. We proudly purchased the practice on the 1 January 1985. We essentially built it up from scratch; taking it from a few thousand patients to 16,000. Going forward, I am hopeful that Anitha will continue to run the practice as a friendly family style business.”

Olivia Allison, Senior Business Agent – Dental at Christie & Co, who handled the sale, comments, “Brown’s is a fantastic practice with extremely loyal staff and patients, who I am sure will be delighted with Anitha as the new owner. After 37 years of doing a great job of running the practice, I wish Trevor and Morag a happy retirement. Anitha is very keen to progress the practice to the next level and I have every confidence that she’ll be able to do so.

“Demand continues to outstrip supply in the North East and there are more buyers for practices than ever before.”

Brown’s Dental Surgery was sold for an undisclosed price.
