If you’re a dentist looking for more patients, move to Arkansas.
Arkansas is among the worst states in the United States when it comes to the number of dentists per 100,000 patients. According to Dr. Charles Cranford from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, a problem for Arkansas residents is the lack of a dental school in the state.
Dr. Cranford is trying to start a movement for his school to add a dental school.
According to the numbers, there are roughly only 40 dentists for every 100,000 people in Arkansas. The United States’ average is 60 dentists for every 100,000 people.
Agreements with other states may help increase the amount of dentists in Arkansas, but an influx of dentists is still vital for the state’s oral health to improve. As a result, the standards of oral health in Arkansas are not on par with many other states.
This problem will soon be compounded by the fact that many Arkansas dentists will be retiring over the next few years. The number of dentists retiring is larger than the number of dentists coming into the state, so this issue is only worsening.
