Glidewell Laboratories Makes Donation to Adult Retraining Program

NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. — Glidewell Laboratories, industry-leading provider of dental lab products and services, announced today the donation of a Prismatik CZ6 Sintering Oven to the Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute, the only government-funded career retraining school in California that offers a dental technology program. Glidewell is also donating a number of zirconia blanks that students can use to mill crowns & bridges as a part of their education.

“The school was unable to work on all-zirconia restorations because they did not have a proper oven, so they would miss out on learning half of the restoration process,” said Wilma Peterson, CDT, Manager of Education at Glidewell Laboratories. “Now they can complete an entire zirconia crown in the classroom.

“Glidewell Laboratories President and CEO Jim Glidewell is excited about giving back and sharing his success. These students are the future of the dental technology industry, and he was in their shoes more than 40 years ago, so he wants to do all he can to cultivate the next generation of dental technicians.”

The Simi Valley Adult School and Career Institute is the adult education division of the Simi Valley Unified School District. The school enrolls more than 11,000 students a year, about half of whom are pursuing a wide variety of occupational training programs. The Simi Valley Adult School has the largest number of medical and dental training programs among all the adult education programs in California. Class offerings include Advanced Dental Technology for dental technology graduates, laboratory owners and certified dental technicians, as well as a Dental Technologist Master Course. The campus is located in eastern Ventura County, between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties.

A sintering oven provides controlled heating, which is key to the manufacture of solid products made from materials such as zirconia. The Prismatic CZ6 Sintering Oven being donated to the Simi Valley school offers precise temperature control up to 1,600 degrees Celsius. It also features a heavy-duty, double-shell design to ensure minimal outside furnace temperature influence and ceramic fiberboard lining for optimal energy efficiency.

Zirconia is growing in popularity among dentists who are looking for an esthetic, more-durable alternative to porcelain crowns & bridges, and is expected to become the standard for materials used in dental restorations. BruxZir® Solid Zirconia restorations are the fastest-growing products in Glidewell Laboratories’ history.
