Division of Pediatric Dentistry Named 2011 Affiliate of the Year in Recognition for Child-Saving Work

(Charlotte, NC – March 29, 2011) National Children’s Oral Health Foundation: America’s ToothfairyÒ (NCOHF) is pleased to announce that the University of California San Francisco School of Dentistry – Division of Pediatric Dentistry has been named the 2011 Affiliate of the Year.   The Affiliate of the Year Award is presented annually to a member of the NCOHF affiliate network in recognition of exemplary commitment to eliminating pediatric dental disease in their community. As part of this affiliate network, NCOHF has provided UCSF with over $165,000 to date in financial and product support to aid in their efforts to deliver oral health services to underserved children.

April Is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Child abuse is a painful topic for most of us to think about—even for a few minutes—but for children who live in abusive households, that pain and fear is never-ending.  April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and Oral Health America would like to call attention to the important role that dental professionals play in fighting child abuse.  Nearly 65 percent of all child abuse injuries involve injury to the head, neck or mouth, often putting dental personnel first in line to note abuse of their patients.

ADA Collecting Donations to Help People in Japan

Watching the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster unfold in Japan these past two weeks has been painful for all of us. The American Dental Association is now raising funds and collaborating with the Japan Dental Association, so that we can identify where we might effectively address the greatest need. Donations are not tax deductable. However, 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to Japan for relief programs. This effort started out as an ADA staff fundraising project, and now has expanded to garner participation from all ADA members and the Tripartite.

DentaQuest Foundation Directs $4 Million in Grants

March 25, 2011 –The DentaQuest Foundation awarded more than $4 million in 2010 to organizations in 8 states who are dedicated to improving the oral health of Americans. A total of 48 grants are supporting initiatives in Florida, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, Illinois, Mississippi, New York and Kentucky to reduce health inequities, highlight prevention, foster civic engagement, and influence systems that promote oral health beyond the clinical setting.
