Whatever it Takes to Save a Tooth

Dr. Gordon Wilson of Phoenix, AZ received the Orkos Award for demonstrated professional excellence in a case study report of a patient treated for gum disease. This patient had been referred to Dr. Wilson’s practice because his gum disease was so severe that 6 teeth were in jeopardy of extraction and the patient insisted on trying to save them all.  At the initial exam, Dr. Wilson agreed that at least two of the teeth were likely to be lost, but the patient persisted and volunteered to do “whatever it takes to save a tooth,” including the 200 mile drive to Dr. Wilson’s office for multiple visits. The treatment proved so successful that only one tooth (#2) was extracted and Dr. Wilson was able to plan necessary restorative work.

Lessons In A Lunch Box Program To Reach 15,000 Children By 2012

Owings Mills, Maryland (December 8, 2011). The Lessons In A Lunch Box: Healthy Teeth Essentials & Facts About Snacks® program will kick off for a fifth straight year. By the end of 2012, the school-based oral health initiative isexpected to have reached 15,000 youth. Despite the challenging economy, interestin providing assistance has helped to keep the program thriving for another year.
This interest has helped to expand the program, geared toward elevating the oral health of families, further into school systems nationwide.

New Orleans, LA (November 18, 2011) - Code Red: The Oral Health Crisis In Your Classroom© Empowering the Teacher to Teach Oral Health Education – A Curriculum Resource Reference was introduced today at the National Alliance of Black School Educator's (NABSE) 39th Annual Conference. The NABSE is devoted to furthering the academic success for the nation's children. As such those attending The Children's Oral Health Institute's Teachers Day Education Strand Workshop and Panel Discussion agreed with the need to incorporate oral health education into their lesson plans. Educators from around the country enthusiastically welcomed the recommendation to include one hour of oral health education into required curriculums for grades K through12.
